![]() Finally finished Kundera's The Art of the Novel, a "practitioner's confession" as he calls it. Split into seven parts, Kundera celebrates the greatness of the novel as an art form and talks and writes about his personal vision for the art form. I found it a very good key to his work (he even includes a glossary of some important and reoccurring terms and themes in his work; so tired was he of his translators translating these terms into synonyms). His comments on the structure of his work were of great interest to me, and I thoroughly enjoyed his essay on Kafka.

Writing a novel is not something that just anyone can do. People think that writing novels is just writing what you feel, but that is not true. It takes a lot to be able to write a great novel. Personally, I think that people undermine just how writing novels work. I want people to realize just how hard it is to think of a plot and make it work across hundreds of pages. Writing a novel is not easy, guys.
